Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

"Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening"
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
                 -Robert Frost (1874 - 1963 / San Francisco / USA)
A great poet, Like Robert frost, will always keep you guessing. It has excellent imagry. Also great poems never die as long as theres someone to read them. Well, I guess everyone can interpret a poem the way they want.Great poets are those that get across multiple ideas with a single poem.BUT, it is known that Frost's poetry isn't as light and cheerful as many people think. And this poem is quite dark if you are getting the message he was expressing. One has to read the poem out loud to experience the magic of its cadences.(c.f. W. H. Auden's definition of poetry as memorable speech.) Frost says he repeated the last line because he couldn't think of any other.Clearly he also recognized that there was no need for any other. The statement in the last verse is that beauty is compelling and he would love to linger, but he has work to do. 'Sleep' may refer to the more lasting sleep of death.
The Poem which inspired me to read poems. I remember of my good old school days when I read this.I can never forget the last stanza 'Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening' is notably one of his famous poems with a deep meaning and significance about life. The last two lines always touch me ...
'The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep. '
Thats simply amazing..... I love this poem, especially the last lines.......................Man has a lot to do before getting attracted to anything. I have been found guilty of reciting this one many times behind closed doors of my room, standing in front of the mirror. Although I grew up in small town , my only solace was everyday  Im going to school in winter season i feel verys nowy morning  ...It never snows in south India...but the early morning walk through the woods....sitting on the steps of the nearest pond..... and slowly im  going to school, like a tortoise:)but my mind like a rabbit :)in way of my school-Road beside woods so i remain this poem:),i really miss my school days:( dec, jan, feb,we face winter here, sun rising...the chirping of the birds...the first drops of dew on the grass....the tranquility was my equivalent to the snowy woods....Time and again I have gone into a trance...like another world.[dream world] this poem also my dad fav't poem ,me &dad also discuss about poets, poetry and literature........

p.s: we only see dew drops in the early morning , morning dewdrops on a striped leaf its amazing !we miss snow alot  :(

Day by day I float my paper boats.....

Tagore's Poem-Day by day I float my paper boats

Day by day I float my paper boats one by one down the running
stream.

In big black letters I write my name on them and the name of
the village where I live.
I
hope that someone in some strange land will find them and
know who I am.

I load my little boats with shiuli flower from our garden, and
hope that these blooms of the dawn will be carried safely to land
in the night.

I launch my paper boats and look up into the sky and see the
little clouds setting thee white bulging sails.

I know not what playmate of mine in the sky sends them down
the air to race with my boats!

When night comes I bury my face in my arms and dream that my
paper boats float on and on under the midnight stars.

The fairies of sleep are sailing in them, and the lading is
their baskets full of dreams.

this poem is a story about a boy being abused at some as he tries to send a message out with the paper boats.
this poem reminds my childhood days on my mind.i luv this poem when im studying school this poem is part of my studys...my mam explained this poem very interesting.........and i also make paper boats ...when rain showerig showering....after rain....or still raining...me &my bro's make paper boats ...and "katti padava"[telugu] means this is calling our native one of the regional languages in India [advanced modal in paperboats] this boat have a knife (bottom of the paer boat) this is amazing experience..we can't forget those dayz..
This is a really emotive time of when life seemed to have spare time, wanting to be known by others, the excitement of people around the world receiving his several many paper boats, finding out his information almost connects them together.
monsoon rain brings puddles... And where you find puddles, you'll find kids! Have fun in thepuddles..with paper boats.....:)
when rain showering ...
showering .....showering.....
i always reminds this poem...
rain brings puddles... And where you find puddles, you'll find kids! Have fun in the puddles with boats.....and feel like a child..
One more of my all time favorites will be coming up soon too...
P.S: Happy birthday Rabindranath Tagore! :)

Where The Mind is Without Fear.....

Tagore's poem where the the mind is without fear is a great poem thatalways inspires me so much. until and unless we destroy the domestic boundary, it is impossible to make our country heaven.
this is a graet poem which inspired me so much in my life. also teaches me the truth knowledge cannot be bounded, inspiration to me that go ahead you will at a time find your sucess.
this poem has been the one poem in my life that has brought a great impact in my life so far.this poem from a patriotic person as rabindranathji himself is a great plea for his country to wake up and see the changes that is taking place around the world and learn to enhance these changes so that one can develop itself. I respect the essence of what the poet is trying to convey to us from this small prayer of his. It is something we should all learn from so that our motherland can smile happily back to us. i thank him for this "masterpiece" (according to me)
I will try to write a poem thinking of these wonderfulwords in relation with what is happening in the world today. In todays society I feel all have lost their way. This writing would be so helpful to so many that have lost all hope. For in the eyes of freedom our country can awaken again.
"Where the mind is without fear" is a poem by which our country can get the freedom everybody wants. no terrorism, no prison by anybody only freedom and freedom .A man with depth in his thought and action. His eyes says most of the things which his speech MAY hide.A man of true spirit and highest wisdom. He was Rabindranath Tagore.......here this poem...

Where The Mind is Without Fear:

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free

Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls

Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection

Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit

Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action

Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake
Greatest writer in modern Indian literature, Bengali poet, novelist, educator, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913. Tagore was awarded the knighthood in 1915, but he surrendered it in 1919 as a protest against the Massacre of Amritsar, where British troops killed some 400 Indian demonstrators protesting colonial laws. Tagore's reputation in the West as a mystic has perhaps mislead his Western readers to ignore his role as a reformer and critic of colonialism.
"When one knows thee, then alien there is none, then no door is shut. Oh, grant me my prayer that I may never lose touch of the one in the play of the many." (from Gitanjali)

The Rhythm of Rain

Oh! At last the rain has arrived,
On the mighty wings of wind,
Painting smeary black on the sky,
Lashing silky white hair,
On the strong concrete pediments,
Down comes the rain
Forcing the metro to chill.

Oh !the mighty drops are here again,
Spilling cool spray on the sky scrappers
Drenching the ground still parched and thirsty
Slowing down the motors to creep a while
The pied crested cuckoo in panic far away,
Down pours the rain with
Bleakly white drops.

The bountiful Rain ravished
On the metro life
Roaring as a lion a while
And shimmering as a sword
Played with the naughty boy,
Stretching hands in the balcony,
The drenching lovebirds moved
Closer sharing the warmth,
Charming bride’s dimples
Glittered in the neon,
With crystal clear droplets.

The rain in the metro drizzled,
As a sweet melody of first love,
The green started spouting,
And the tiny tot giggled,
The handsome guy whistled
Why the girl next door blushed ?
Through the misty curtained window.

Down comes the drop tick ..tick ..tick
Is that the rhythm ,of my own heart?
The rain in the metro gushes and gushes
Bringing life and hope once again
And forever

Luck of summer rain

How beautiful is the rain! After the dust and heat,In the broad and fiery street,In the narrow lane,How beautiful is the rain!
How it clatters along the roofs,Like the tramp of hoofs! How it gushes and struggles outFrom the throat of the overflowing spout!
Across the window paneIt pours and pours; And swift and wide,With a muddy tide,Like a river down the gutter roarsThe rain, the welcome rain! Poetry of Henry Wadsworth.

A Sensitive Heart

‘There are three ways of seeking God in the human heart. The first way is to recognise God the divine in every person, and to care for every person with whom we come in contact, in our thought, speech, and action. Human personality is very delicate. The more living the heart the more sensitive it is; that which causes sensitivity is the love element in the heart, and love is God. The person whose heart is not sensitive is without feeling; his heart is not living, but dead. In that case the divine spirit is buried in his heart.’

I’m so at a loss right now
I don’t know what to do
I don’t know how to find the love
That’s always keeping true

Feelings come foremost
To a sensitive heart
A sensitive heart knows this
Will do nothing to impart

Separation and despair,
Dismisses and no care
Disillusionment, out on the cold cement
Will do nothing to make a heart lament

Instead a sensitive heart
Shines like the sun
Encases, it bridges almost everyone
Alive and living
This it is
Easily able to recognise bliss

A Winter Dawn

A Winter Dawn
Banana-cream and apricot
arose in the eastern sky;
Softly blending with shaded-greys,
it quietly caught the eye.
Dawn is magic along the horizon
before the sun climbs aloft;
Winter mornings are specially-embellished
with colours more muted and soft.
Snowflakes mirror the pastel tones,
adding their touch for the day;
Beauty spilled from nature's palette
and meant to come our way.

Blow, Blow, Thou Winter Wind

Blow, blow, thou winter wind.
Thou art not so unkindAs man’s ingratitude;
Thy tooth is not so keen,
Because thou art not seen,
Although thy breath be rude.

Heigh-ho! sing, heigh-ho!

unto the green holly:
Most friendship is feigning,

most loving mere folly:
Then, heigh-ho, the holly!
This life is most jolly.
Freeze, freeze, thou bitter sky,
That dost not bite so nigh

As benefits forgot:
Though thou the waters warp,
Thy sting is not so sharp
As friend remember’d not.Heigh-ho! sing, &c.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION
My longing comes to my lips as supplication of mine O God! May like the candle be the life of mine!
May the world's darkness disappear through the life of mine! May every place light up with the sparkling light of mine!
May my homeland through me attain eleganceAs the garden through flowers attains elegance
May my life like that of the moth be, O Lord! May I love the lamp of knowledge, O Lord!
May supportive of the poor my life's way be May loving the old, the suffering my way be
O God! Protect me from the evil ways Show me the path leading to the good ways...
